Introducing 3 Rivers Pastoral Area

We are a Roman Catholic Worshiping Community of over 1500 Catholics actively celebrating their faith in 6 churches in the centre of Hampshire and part of the diocese of Portsmouth.

The '3 Rivers' that run through our pastoral area are the rivers Test, Itchen and Hamble and the '3' is symbolic of the Trinity - God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Our Pastoral Area Coordinating Pastor is Father Michael Dennehy, who works together to lead and serve the community, with Father George Lyons, Father John Buckley, Deacons Bob Birtles and Paul Owen. Please click here > for more about Pastoral Areas

Parish Councils and Finance Committees

Each Church has its own PPC (Pastoral Parish Council)

The PPC is responsible to enable our parish communities
to understand and serve the mission of the Church
in conformity with the Gospel.

A Pastoral Council seeks to:

- enrich the quality of parish life  - - provide opportunities for parishioners

a) to grow in holiness

b) to discover and live out their personal and community call to mission

c) to live as Catholics who effectively transform society.

Confirmation

Come, Holy Ghost,
and fill the hearts of the faithful,
And kindle in them,
The fires of Thy Divine Love

Confirmation is sometimes seen as a "rite of passage" into adulthood, but it is much more than that. Confirmation is the Sacrament of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit:

  • It brings an increase in the grace given at Baptism.
  • It gives an indelible spiritual mark, which is characterized by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
  • It strengthens the Christian to profess the faith in an open manner.

Confirmation is normally celebrated in the late Spring.

Faith and Light Eastleigh Group
Faith and Light is an International community movement bringing together people with a learning disability, their families carers and friends, particularly young people. It recognises that everyone has gifts to offer – the ability to welcome others with love and affection and a gift of Celebration.  The most important thing is to meet and listen to the man woman or child who is often marginalized in today’s society In this way we get to know each other and nobody is left out.

This group meets on the fourth Saturday of the month in the Cloister of St. Edward the Confessor Church at 2.30pm for prayers, music, tea and occasional outings.

Friends & Neighbours Group
It may sound like a soap opera, but these two words sum up our concern for our fellow parishioners.

Friends & Neighbours is the welfare group based at St.Edward, Chandlers Ford who visit the sick, the housebound and those who live alone. We keep in touch with all involved in this work, even if they are members of another parish organisation such as the Parish Pastoral Areas, so as to make sure that no one in need slips through the net.

If you would like to help in this work, or you are aware of someone in need of a visit, please contact Tony Wilson.

Parish Charities & Organisations

Knights of St Columba

The Knights of St Columba are an Order of Catholic Laymen dedicated to the Service of the Church and fellow man. The Organisation, which is non-political and essentially democratic, exists to support the mission of the Catholic Church and at the same time to work for the spiritual and material good of its members and their families.

In accordance with the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church, members will diligently work for the Moral and Social Welfare of our Country and in particular to help young people develop in the likeness of Christ. Members of the Order will strive to achieve these aims through the fundamental virtues of Charity, Unity and Fraternity.

The CATENIANS are a non-political international brotherhood of like-minded Catholic business and professional men who meet socially, at least once a month, at local branches, or "Circles". They also have a commitment to help each other in times of difficulty or need. They are not a fundraising agent or Catholic action pressure group.

The nearest branch is in Winchester - founded in 1952.
It currently has around 50 members and meets on the first Thursday of the month at the Wessex Hotel in Winchester. The members are mainly from the parishes of Winchester, Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh, Andover and Romsey.

The Winchester branch is bounded on one side by Basingstoke Circle (meets third Monday) and on the other by Southampton Circle.

Association for the Propagation of the Faith (APF)
The APF assists each and every one of the Catholic Church's 1,062 mission dioceses and territories to provide pastoral care and preach the Gospel effectively.

It was founded in Lyons, France, in 1822 by a young French woman, Pauline Jaricot. A century later, when the organisation was established in almost every country of the world, Pope Pius XI made it the official mission-funding society for the Catholic Church.

The APF works in England and Wales with the Mill Hill Missionary Society.

In England and Wales funds for the Missions are collected through the famous Red collection Boxes. These can be found in 200,000 homes and they have helped raise millions of pounds for the missions.

The APF enables its supporters to live out their own missionary vocation and to take an active part in the universal mission of the Church of Christ.
